The new lighting of Kortrijk’s Church of Our Lady, unveiled in March 2025, uses tunable white light to discreetly highlight its architectural features and textured stone façades, enhancing its hidden yet striking nighttime presence within the city.

The Church of Our Lady in Kortrijk remains largely hidden from its urban surroundings, with the main façade only suddenly apparent when approaching from Groeningenstraat. Seasonal foliage further obscures views.

The lighting plan focuses on uniformly illuminating the lower structure while emphasizing the south-side towers and pinnacles, which stand out as nighttime landmarks from multiple city vantage points.

Lighting is achieved through recessed ground fixtures and floodlights positioned on nearby buildings to reach the towers.

To suit the warm stone and reveal the texture of the façades, tunable white light (3000K–4000K) was selected in collaboration with the client.

The project balances discretion with emphasis, enhancing the church’s subtle yet significant nighttime presence. The new lighting was inaugurated on March 8, 2025.
