Cascina Ranverso, a historic farm turned biodynamic Relais, was sustainably renovated to blend hospitality with heritage, featuring discreet, warm-toned lighting that enhances its red brick architecture while preserving a natural nighttime ambiance. The result is a lighting scheme that supports the building’s identity, reinforces its natural setting, and offers a refined nighttime experience in tune with both place and purpose.
Cascina Ranverso, located in Buttigliera Alta in the lower Val di Susa, is one of Piedmont’s oldest agricultural estates, dating back to 1782.
Today, it functions both as a working farm and a biodynamic food and wine Relais.
The renovation project aimed to merge hospitality and farming, while preserving the site’s historical essence, applying principles of sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
The buildings were adapted to include a kitchen, dining area, guest rooms, multi-purpose spaces, and a biodynamic food shop.
Sustainability guided every decision: energy efficiency, eco-friendly low-impact materials, and improved accessibility were central goals.
Lighting design, by Susanna Antico Lighting Design Studio (now Loomit), marked architect Susanna Antico’s first all-Italian commission after years of designing abroad. Her project, embracing sustainability principles of focusing on enhancing the perception of the building’s architectural volumes while maintaining a natural night-time atmosphere.
Carefully directed grazing light highlights the red brickwork of the façades and courtyard. Linear recessed luminaires with elliptical optics and warm 2700K LEDs, along with in-ground spots with narrow 10° beams, are equipped with high CRI LEDs (>90) and honeycomb louvers for optimal visual comfort.
These discreetly integrated fixtures respect the integrity of the architecture while allowing the illuminated space to be perceived clearly and harmoniously.
