Be-MINE’s lighting masterplan unifies Belgium’s largest industrial heritage site with sustainable, visually engaging illumination that enhances safety, spatial clarity, and identity—highlighting key landmarks like the shaft towers and church while preserving historical integrity.
Be-MINE, Belgium’s most significant historical industrial heritage site, operational between 1922 and 1986, spans 100,000 m². Since ceasing operations, it underwent a bold conversion, blending history, culture and current life, creating a dynamic hub, attracting business, residents and visitors: Residential units blending modern living in the historical setting; Cultural and commercial spaces; Recreational and sports facilities; all planned to appeal to younger generations.
In 2019, we won the international competition for the site's lighting masterplan, tasked with ensuring a cohesive, balanced and pleasing nighttime identity.
The plan intends to generate coherence and hierarchy, unify the diverse site elements while creating clear spatial organization, visual Interest and safety, an inviting and happy night ambience while ensuring well-lit, safe public spaces and eco-efficiency – Implementing sustainable lighting solutions.
The plan accommodates future architectural development, ensuring seamless integration in the project.
